How Dentures are made

Dentures are dental prosthetic devices that are custom-made to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. The process of making dentures typically involves several steps. Here is a general overview of how dentures are made from start to finish:

Initial consultation:

• The process begins with a consultation with the specialist. During the visit, the dentist will examine your oral health, take measurements, and discuss your needs and expectations

Impression taking:

• After the consultation, impressions of your mouth are taken. This involves using dental putty or digital scanners to create a precise replica of your oral tissues. These impressions will serve as a foundation for creating the dentures.

Bite registration:

• The dentist will also take a bite registration to record how your upper and lower jaws fit together. This ensures proper alignment and bite function of the dentures.

Wax rim fabrication

• Using the impressions, the dental laboratory fabricates a wax rim. This rim is placed in your mouth to establish the correct position, size, and orientation of the denture teeth.

Tooth selection and setup:

• Based on factors like your facial appearance, age, gender, and preferences, the dentist will help you choose the size, shape, and color of the denture teeth. The selected teeth are then set into the wax rim, creating a try-in denture.

Try-in and adjustments:

• The try-in denture is placed in your mouth to evaluate the appearance, fit, and bite. The dentist makes any necessary adjustments to ensure proper alignment, comfort, and aesthetics.

Final denture fabrication:

• Once the try-in stage is complete and any necessary changes have been made, the dental laboratory fabricates the final denture. This involves replacing the wax rim with a material called acrylic resin, which forms the base of the denture. The artificial teeth are securely embedded in the acrylic.

Delivery and fitting:

• When the final denture is ready, you will have an appointment to receive it. The dentist will place the denture in your mouth and make any minor adjustments to ensure a proper fit and function.
